Between 2000 and early 2003, the Lebanese Association for Educational Studies (LAES) was commissioned by UNESCO to undertake six studies as part of the project on the Evaluation of the New Lebanese Curricula. These studies were:

  • Educational Bibliography in Lebanon 1950 - 2000

In the year 2002, LAES was commissioned by the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO to prepare a bibliography of all the material written on Education in Lebanon from 1950 until 2000. With the help of MultiData Services, Inc., a software was developed for the purpose. The data collection was executed through a comprehensive survey of libraries of Lebanese universities, research centers, and individual personal libraries. Books, articles, and graduate theses only were included; unpublished reports and material related to education in other countries were excluded. Also included are some theses written on education in Lebanon by individuals residing outside the country. The bibliography contains 4,270 entries in Arabic, English, and French and is available on CD. Project Coordinator: Adnan El Amine.

  • Educational Bibliography in Lebanon 1950 - 2002

This project aims at controlling and asserting data collected for the Educational Bibliography in Lebanon 1950-2000, and updating it by including sources that appeared in years 2001 and 2002. Moreover, it includes preparing abstracts for each source that appeared between 1995 and 2002. Each abstract presents the theme(s) dealt with and the main result or the main concluded ideas. This project is commissioned by the Lebanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture. Project Coordinator: Adnan El Amine.

  • Educational Administration Development in Al-Mabbarrat Foundation Schools

This study was commissioned by Al-Mabbarrat Foundation Schools in 2004 to enhance the skills of its educational leadership team. The study consisted of two parts: (a) performing a needs assessment for training requirements and needs of the Foundation Schools' educational leaders; and (b) designing and implementing a training program for the target group.

  • Using ICT in Teaching Communication Skills in Schools in Bahrain

This project was undertaken  in collaboration with the Bahraini Ministry of Education. The objectives of this study were to:

  1. Develop a model to integrate information and communication technology in the teaching of communication skills in basic education;

  2. Try out the model and develop a comprehensive mechanism for application based on the curriculum competencies, learning strategies, teaching methods, educational assessment method at the levels of school and government, and relationship of school with society; and

  3. Assess and follow-up on the practical execution of the model to present a vision for lateral expansion at the level of schools and longitudinal expansion at the levels of the different skills.

  • Framework for the Development of Arabic Language Teaching Methodology in ABEGS Member Countries

This study was commissioned by the Arab Bureau for Education in the Gulf States (ABEGS) to help improve the usage of the formal Arabic language in everyday student life and help enhance students' academic performance in the Arabic language. The report would be used as a framework or guideline for ABEGS member countries to develop their curricula, school textbooks, assessment schemes, and other educational material. The study culminated in a 60-page document presented to the ABEGS office on 20/8/2003, prepared by: Adnan El Amine (Coordinator), Murad Jurdak, Ghazi Ghaith, and AbdelFattah Zein.

  • Comparative Analysis of Characteristics of At-Risk Youth for Mouvement Sociale

This study was commissioned by Mouvement Sociale in 2004 to analyze the social, psychological, educational, and professional characteristics of at-risk youth (age 15-19) in Lebanon. The findings would be utilized in Mouvement Sociale's program to help youth at risk develop their self-image and promote their lifestyle and career opportunities. Since it was launched in 1995, this program has helped more than 250 young men and women annually.   • Higher Education in the Arab World Before and After the 1998 Beirut Conference

This study was commissioned by the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in the Arab States - Beirut. The report discusses the state of Higher Education in the Arab countries before and after the UNESCO Conference on Higher Education in 1998, reflecting on the main issues, obstacles, windows of opportunity, and necessary conditions for development. The report was prepared by Adnan El Amine (Coordinator) and Antoine Dagher.
